In addition, Vermont’s largest hospital, Fletcher Allen Health Care, is located on the university’s campus and is affiliated with the College of Medicine.

UVM has a long-standing reputation of demonstrating a commitment to fairness and equality. The university was an early pioneer in the advocacy of religious freedom and fairness for both women’s and African-American’s full participation in higher education. Today, with total enrollment of approximately 12,000 students, of which 65% are from outside Vermont, the student body continues to be diverse and well-rounded.

Participating in Division-1 athletics, the Catamounts athletic programs participate in 18 varsity spots encompassing eight men’s and ten women’s teams. Popular and perennial favorites in their respective conferences include the men’s and women’s ice hockey, ski, basketball and soccer teams. In fact, the ski team has won an unprecedented six national championships, most recently in 2012, and has produced 54 national championships. In men’s hockey, alumni now playing in the NHL include Tim Thomas, Patrick Sharp and Victor Stalberg, among others.
